Allergy Season

Allergy Season is officially in full swing here on the Eastern Shore. I'm not allergic to many things, however, this spring my allergies seem to be flaring up much worse than they have in the past 5 years. As a result, I had to go to the doctor today for a sinus infection. I couldn't get into my regular doctor, so I headed to one of the local immediate care walk in centers. Luckily, I was the only person there, so I didn't have to wait long (Thank goodness, because I swear my head felt like it was going to explode!). The doc checked me out and before I left I was given a prescription for an antibiotic and Nasonex. But, he was also nice enough to give me a sample size of the Nasonex as well, which included a $15 coupon I could use when actually filling the script.

Since I was already getting another filled, I got the Nasonex filled too. The co-pay was $15, so I got it for FREE when I gave the pharmacist the coupon from the sample size box. How exciting!!! Who knew there were such great coupons out there for meds! The doc also said you can go to the Nasonex website to print out more. Sure enough, he was right! Here's a link.

KFC coupon debacle

Apparently with Oprah's "blessing" of this product, there was an overwhelming response to the coupon redemption, and KFC has suspended their accepting of it. However, if you had a chance to print it out, not to worry, they will still honor it, but in the form of a raincheck. All you have to do is take your coupon into a KFC, fill out a small form & turn it back in, with your coupons attached. Your rain check will be for the meal + a drink, which the coupon didn't include. You can go here for more details. Each household is able to redeem 4 coupons for rain checks. Reportedly, there are still some KFC locations honoring the coupon, so you might just get surprised when you go in for a rain check & are still able to redeem your coupon.

**EDIT: Amiyrah over at 4 Hats and Frugal has been so kind as to post a PDF/scanned version of the form you must fill out and attach your coupons to in order to receive the raincheck. It can be found here.

THANKS, Joan!

A reader by the name of Joan emailed me a few weeks ago in response to this post I made. Well, her hard work has paid off for me! I now have a blog button & the directions on how to make a 3 column blog (when I have the time to sit down without kids interrupting me every 5 seconds)! So, I'd like to dedicate this post to her for taking the time to help me out. Be sure to check out her blog by clicking on her name above, or the link at the right of the page "Only In York County"

THANKS, JOAN!!!!

Fresh Sacks *CONTEST*

A while back, I was given several boxes of the environmentally friendly product known as Fresh Sacks.

They are available at Walgreens, and typically cost $8.99 If you go to the website, there is a $5 rebate on there, which ultimately makes them $3.99 for the box! They are available in boxes of 25, 50 or 250. What's even better, is that they're bio-degradable, so they don't harm the environment!

So, I'm offering 1 box of these to one lucky reader. To enter, simply leave a comment on this post. You may gain 1 extra entry for each of the following that you do: become a follower of my blog, subscribe to my blog, Twitter about this giveaway, post about it on your blog, and add my button to your site. When you do these, please leave a separate comment for each thing you do. If you are already a follower/subscriber, leave a message to that nature.

I will choose a random comment number using Random.org on Wednesday, May 13 after 8PM. They will then have 2 days to get their mailing address to me. Should they fail to do so, another random winner will be chosen in their place.

Need some blog help!!

I'm in need of some blog help, because well, I'm a bit technologically challenged.

First of all, I'm trying to figure out how in the world I can make my blog 3 columns. I tried googling to find some layouts, but haven't the slightest idea of how to "install" them on my blog.

Secondly, I want to make a "button" for my blog so that readers can add it to theirs. I was told I could make my own, but again, haven't the slightest on where to start.

If anyone has the time & smarts to help me out, please contact me . I would much appreciate it!!!!!

FREE nursing cover!

***DISCLAIMER***
First of all, let me start this post by saying that by posting this in no way am I even hinting that I think nursing mothers should cover their little one. However, when I was doing so in public, I did, but only because I was too clumsy & self concious to nurse without being covered.

Udder Covers is offering a FREE nursing cover when you enter code ONEFREE. You will be responsible for shipping charges (I think it's $7.95). From my understanding, there are only pink & blue left.

Brag

I have to take a minute to write this quick post about my son, because he totally floored me this morning on the way to daycare.

He'a a HUGE fan of trucks, any kind of truck really, but especially fire trucks/ambulances. We were talking about fire trucks this morning, and I asked him how we called the fire trucks, fully expecting him to ask me "How?" back as his answer. Nope...he said "9-1-1" My jaw dropped to the ground, and then I grinned ear to ear, telling him how proud I was of him, and asked who taught him that. I figured they must have discussed it at daycare, but nope, he said his daddy told him. Then, we drove by a billboard that had the numbers 2-1-1 on there, and he pointed and told me that was 9-1-1, so I had to correct him, but was still excited that he recognized the numbers.

Now I guess I need to teach him our address just in case he ever does have to call 9-1-1.

I hit the motherload!

For Christmas, I received 4 brand new bras! I've always been a Victoria's Secret girl, up until after having Caroline. Since then, my old bras just didn't fit like they used to so I was on the lookout for a new brand. Many of my friends had recommended Bali bras, so I tried them (that's what I got for Christmas). I was happy, up until after they'd been washed a few times, and then the cups got a bit wrinkly, and would show through my shirt, despite the fact that they weren't supposed to. So, I wrote to the company and shared my issue with them. After several emails back and forth, I finally received a resolution: they would send me a replacement. I had a package in the mailbox late last week & when I opened it, out came 4 brand new Bali bras, just exactly like what I have now, minus the wrinkles on the cups! WOW! I never in my life expected all 4 bras to be replaced, but sure enough, that's what happened.

Moral of the story: Bali bras are AWESOME and have AWESOME customer service! If you have a complaint, ALWAYS contact the company to let them know. Many of them figure on the fact that if you take the time to voice your opinion, there are at least 10 others out there who have the same problem, but don't take the time to let it be known. And who knows, you might just reap the rewards like I did.

Eleanor Roosevelt

No doubt you've probably received this in an email forward in the past...I know I have, several times. Why then do you ask, did I post this? Well, because tonight on my way from work to pick the kids up from daycare, I just missed being in an accident. Just after crossing the highway, I heard squealing tires, a loud bang, a looked in my rear view mirror only to see a truck T-bone the car that was just behind me at the stop light, and was attempting to cross the highway. As much as I wanted to stop & see if I could help, I just couldn't bring myself to do it, all along thinking to myself how that was almost me, and this poem popped in my head, and I knew I needed to share, just in case.

Apology re: Walgreens deals

For some reason the past few weeks, I've not been getting the Walgreens sale circular in my Sunday paper, hence the reason there has been no posting of the Walgreens deals. Hopefully, this "issue" will resolve itself (very) soon!

2 year All You magazine subscription $17.99

Deal Seeking Mom has a deal going on through March 28 where you can buy a 2 year subscription to All You magazine for only $17.99! This magazine is packed full of coupons each month, and generally pays for itself (for me) with the coupons I get from it. It's only available for purchase at Wal-Mart stores, so if you don't have one around you, this is your chance to get it even cheaper than buying it in store (I think each issue is around $2.24 in store).

My finds at Kmart Super Doubles!

Here's a few of the things that I purchased today at Kmart. My total before coupons was $144.14, and after it was $48.48, a total savings of $95.66! All the coupons listed are the face value, not the doubled amount. I'm planning on going back (at least) once more this week to see if they have some items they were out of today, not to mention have a little more time (I went on my lunch break today).

Spearamint gum $1 - FREE coupon = FREE
Poptarts (8ct) $2.49 - $1 peelie = 49c

I hadn't planned on purchasing all these items, but the coupon fairy had been there before me, leaving coupons that still had valid expiration dates around some items, so I picked them up & used them. See, I told you Coupon Karma made it's rounds!

So, what good buys did you get this week????

I have officially...

Outgrown my wallet size coupon organizer! It's busting at the seams with all the awesome P&G coupons I have stuffed in there, even after sharing the wealth with some buddies at work. Gotta find something else to carry them now I guess....

*GASP* I can't believe I did that!

Seriously, I have a confession to make: Today, I bought something I knew I had a coupon for, but didn't use the coupon (because it was at home, 150 miles away). Yes, that's right, I said it...Phew, I feel better now (but only just a little).

My son has been dealing with some chronic constipation issues for about 2 weeks now. We stopped diluting his apple juice, thinking that would solve it...it didn't. Then, I tried putting Karo syrup in his juice, which worked for about 1 poop, but then he was back to "bunny pellets" So, today, before we got back in the car to travel home from our overnight vacation, I walked to the drug store & purchased some Metamucil to put in his cup. It was on sale for $5.99 and I knew at home I had a $1 coupon I could be using, but HAD to have it, so I just sucked it up & made the purchase. I rationalized it to myself that it was OK not to use the coupon, because at least I would still get to submit it for the Caregiver's Marketplace rebate.

If you didn't think I have issues before, no doubt you think that now!

Ahhhh, retail therapy!

Yesterday, sweet hubby of mine kept the kids while I went in town to get a (much needed) haircut.....I called the salon on my way to town, hoping that my stylist was working, and surprisingly, she was! I was able to make an appointment for 430p, which left me with a little time to kill, so I walked the mall before my hair appointment.

I went into JC Penney to buy some new pillows for us....Armed with a $5 JC Penney reward certificate and a $10/25 coupon, I found a twin pack of queen pillows for $23.99. There was a sale going on where you bought 1 pillow (or pack of pillows) and got the second for $1. I also picked up a long sleeve shirt for hubby, which was on clearance fror $5.99. After it was all said and done, I paid $16.xx for 4 pillows and a shirt! I was thrilled!

After my hair appointment was over, I walked around some more, enjoying the "me" time. I went into Bath & Body Works, which I had a coupon for a free item when you purchased another, so I replenished my Sweet pea body cream supply & also picked up a travel size of Butterfly flower scent for $1. I got 3 things for $13.xx plus another coupon to use in April for a free candle.

Off to Gymboree to see what they had for me to buy, since I have a 20% off coupon for there as well. The cashier told me that they were having a sale and everything $32.95 and less would ring up as $19.99 (unless it was already marked down). I didn't find anything that really jumped out at me, but I did buy Caroline a cute little pair of leggins for $2.xx

I went in Victoria's Secret on my way back out to the car, hoping to cash in a freebie coupon I have, and buy some panties. Unfortunately, they were in the middle of taking inventory and were less than willing to check in the back to see if they had more of what I wanted, so I walked out without buying anything.

After leaving the mall, I headed to Target to use some baby coupons that were soon expiring. I bought Pampers diapers (on sale $9, used $1 Target coupon, $1.50 manuf coupon =$6.50), Luvs diapers (7.99, used $1 Target coupon, $1 manuf coupon = $5.99), 2 packs Huggies Gentle Care wipes (used 2 $5 IPs = 99c each pack watch the wording on these though, some were specifically for Gentle Care diapers & should only be used on diapers), travel size Satin Care shave gel (99c - $1 manuf coupon = FREE), 4 Johnson's Buddies (97c - $1 manuf coupon = FREE), Lucas' easter basket (a Tonka truck!), a CD for me to listen to at work (soothing piano music), and a shirt for each kid to wear on St Patrick's day. I was pretty pleased with my total, though I don't remember what it was right off hand.

Since I was right there, I ran into Best Buy & picked up a paper shredder since ours broke a while back (I tried to feed it too many sheets at once!). No coupon, but it was on sale for under $30, plus I get points towards a Rewards certificate.

A quick trip to fill the car up with gas at Sam's club completed my trip, but not before I checked to see if Staples was still open (it wasn't), since I had an ink cartridge to turn in, and some $1 sale items I wanted to pick up....guess that will have to wait until later this week.

Definately refreshing to get out by myself for a few hours, and even better to spend some money, yet save at the same time!

Jiffy Lube experience

Last week, I wanted, no NEEDED, an oil change for the car. Last time I went to good 'ol Walmart to get it & their price had skyrocketed to $30 for the minimum, so I told myself I wasn't going back there again (not to mention the fact that they didn't even get the right kind of oil in there, but that's a whole different story in itself). So, I called Jiffy Lube to see if they were busy, and whether or not they thought they'd be able to get it done while I was on my lunchbreak. There were a few cars in front of me when I arrived there, but there were plenty of techs around working on them, so I had no doubt that it wouldn't take very long at all. I was even prepared with a coupon to use (imagine that, right?!).

I must say, I was beyond impressed when the tech brought 2 different filters to me to ask if I wanted to have them replaced. Despite the fact that I had no idea what I was looking at, the tech was able to tell me what they were, how much they cost & why I should have them replaced. He wasn't pushy at all when I decided to only replace one. A few minutes later, he came back to tell me that my windshield wipers needed replacing (which I knew), and asked if I wanted him to do that as well. All in all, this took no more than 20 minutes from start to finish, including window washing and interior vacumming (which was badly needed, even if it was up front only).

Granted I spent $60, even with my coupon, but I got an oil change, new wiper blades, and some kind of filter (see, I still don't know what it is). Oh yeah, and I donated $3 to get a booklet of coupons to use at various places, including Jiffy Lube, throughout this year. Needless to say, I now consider myself one of Jiffy Lube's customers.

I won!

A few weeks back, I entered a contest on one of my new favorite blogs, not thinking I'd ever be so lucky as to win....I never win anything....Well, lo and behold, I did win! In fact, I won a $10 Amazon giftcard, which I spent on myself (rather than the kids) for a change.

Last week while I was sick, I finished the book I'd been reading since Christmas (given to me by a dear friend, Maria). So, I could think of nothing better than to spend my winnings on the next book in the series:

Then, I decided to cash in some points over at MyPoints, and I chose a $25 Barnes & Noble giftcard, which I also spent all on myself, purchasing the next 3 books after the one pictured above (which is actually 2 books in 1)!

Now, to find time to get all this reading done! Thanks guys!!!!

For the love of coupons!

First, I must apologize for my lack of posting this week. Lucas has been sick since late Sunday night, though he seems to be on the mend today. Please pray that Caroline & I are spared (DH started this mess).

You might remember a post I did a while ago about a free subscription to Lego magazine...well, Lucas got his first copy in the mail yesterday & he thought he was hot stuff! This morning, he was laying on the couch looking through it again, and came to those little tear out/send in cards, and shouted "Coupons! For me! I love coupons, mommy!" Then, later he was sitting at my desk, cutting a piece of paper, saying it was his coupons. It makes me smile, knowing I've passed my love of coupons onto him.

Super Giant has Progresso 10/$10, so I'm going to use my printables here since SuperFresh doesn't take them.

In response to Denny's free food giveaway after the superbowl, IHOP is giving away free pancakes on Tuesday, Feb 24 from 7a-10p.

I received an email last night from a dear friend in Baltimore. After reading it, I began to cry, because it touched me so much. I had written to her prior to Caroline's ear tube insertion, and she replied back that after reading my email, she had gone to church & lit candles for the children. Just thinking of her doing this makes me well up. To know that a complete stranger (well, almost) would do this for children whom she has never met in her life (and their mother only once!), says a lot about her as a person, and means more than she'll ever know. I can't wait to see her again when the family makes a trip up there sometime in March, hopefully. Lucy, if you're reading this, THANK YOU!

OK, so I've made my 100th post to the blog this week. I even found a site to make my background a little prettier. In celebration of my 100th post milestone, I'm hosting a contest, more details to come later, so be sure to check it out & enter! Tell your friends, too!

Why multiple & printable coupons are important

Recently I was asked why using multiple coupons and printable coupons are important.

Printable coupons allow for savings on a larger variety of items. The inserts can only have so many coupons in them each week, or they would be too thick (hey, it would be ok with me!).

As far as using multiple coupons, or "stacking", this allows for a deeper savings on your item. It can also help you build a stockpile of frequently used items. Many stores allow "stacking" but not all, so it's best to check the individual store's corporate policy before hand, just to be sure.

Some of the tools I use to obtain printable coupons are HotCouponWorld's coupon database, and sites like A Full Cup, My Points, coupons.com or smartsource.com.

Coupon Karma

I was recently in Walgreens check out line. There was a gentleman behind me who was purchasing some batteries. I turned around to him and asked if he'd like a coupon for them. I know some people are way about using coupons, many times men especially. I was hesitant to ask for that reason, but also because I didn't want to offend the man. He gladly accepted the coupon I gave him, even though it was only for 75c off....Hey, a little is a lot these days.

If I am in a store and have multiples of a coupon I know I won't use before it expires, I will leave it on the shelf by the item so someone else can use it for their purchase.

Another day, I was in Target and there was a lady in there who had her coupon binders in the cart, looking for one to match her item. I was looking at something else, and digging through my coupon stash as well, thinking I had a coupon for the item in hand. Turns out I didn't, but the other lady did, so she gladly shared with me.

I truly believe that "coupon karma" is real. Have you shared your coupons in some random way?

What a wonderful day!

Yesterday was our 5th anniversary! We spent the day celebrating with the kids, by spending it together as a family, making some outings to town.

Hubby had decided he wanted to take us for a "Handsome Cab Ride" (horse & carriage ride) so we headed to the park to check it out....well, when we got there, the horses were no where in sight. Needless to say he was a little bummed. So, we took the kids to the park & zoo to try to expend some of their energy. After about an hour and a half there, we packed them back up in the car, and headed off to Lowes. On our way out of the park, we spotted the horses, so we parked & went over to take our ride. It was lovely! Definately a sweet thing to do to celbrate Valentine's Day & our anniversary.

After that, we packed the youngin's back up in the car (Caroline slept through the entire horse ride), and headed off to grab a bite to eat, and then to Lowe's to pick out a pantry cabinet for the kitchen. I was a little bummed because the one I really wanted, is too tall for where we need to put it, so I have to find another one I like. After Lowe's, I ran into Rite Aid, and then we all went into WalMart to grab a few grocery items.

Because there were no naps for the most part, the kids retired to bed early last night, so hubby and I got to spend some quality time together before heading to bed ourselves. I must say, he gave me the most beautiful cards, with special messages written in both of them, and a small box of chocolates.

Happy Anniversary, sweetheart! I love you!

Bring back the coupons!

As of February 1st 2009, RedPlum coupon inserts have been discontinued in many newspapers throughout major US cities. The Valassis Corporation, which distributes the RedPlum, does not realize how this will affect consumers like us and our ability to donate to the needy, keep our own pantry filled, and a host of other reasons.

Valassis has responded by saying that consumers can "now print coupons from their website," but the problem is that many stores refuse to accept internet printed coupons & this will limit how many coupons we can get.

Please join me & couponers from across the country fight this. Go here to post a comment on how this will negatively affect you and your family.

*Also, be sure to let the advertisers who use RP to distribute their coupons just how unhappy this has made you. The BringBackTheCoupons site has a page featuring ALL RedPlum advertiser contact links and a form letter you can use to easily do this.

Hot Coupon World has a list of 19 legit survey sites that PAY you with the added bonus of little to no spam. What a GREAT way to earn some extra money with little effort. As a participant myself, I do suggest creating a dedicated email address for joining such sites, just in case they do send the occasional email newsletter or reminder.

Of those listed, I think MyPoints is my favorite, simply because you don't have to do a darn thing to earn points, other than click through the email(s) they send. National Wear Red Day!

Today is National Wear Red Day! A day for American's everywhere to take women's health to heart by wearing red to show their support for women's heart disease awareness by wearing the color red.

Some statistics:
Heart disease affects women of all races & ethnic groups
Heart disease is the #1 killer of women in Maryland
1 in 4 women in Maryland die of heart disease

The good news is that both men & women can lower their risk of heart disease up to 82% by leading a healthly lifestlye. Encourage your family, friends, and co-workers to wear red today to show their support for Women's heart disease awareness. Any red works; a dress, shirt, jacket, scarf, tie, pin.

Say a little prayer

This morning, Caroline goes in to have tubes put in her ears & some allergy testing done. Poor girl has had a constant (almost) ear infection since November, so hopefully this will help to put an end to that. She's only supposed to be "out" for 15 minutes, but I will be a nervous wreck, no doubt. I've been told that kids generally bounce back pretty quickly after this type of procedure, and she should be ready & able to go back to daycare tomorrow, so let's hope it rings true for us. Please say a little prayer that everything goes smoothly & helps to prevent any further ear infections.

FREE McDonald's cafe drink

During the entire month of February, McDonald's is offering a FREE medium size McCafe drink (late, cappuccino, hot chocolate) with any breakfast sandwich purchase. I figure the average price for these types of drinks is approximately $2, so that's $56 in FREE caffeine drinks! Granted, you'll have to spend a little on breakfast sandwich, but you can get a cheap one for around $1.50 (egg & cheese biscuit/bagel).
