Frugals magazine: A FREE publication of coupons! Winter 2012 edition

It’s a new year and a new quarter, which means there’s a new edition of Frugals available for you to pick up! Do it quick too, because there are TONS of awesome coupons in there for you to use a wide range of establishments. The winter edition also highlights paper coupons, offering some interesting facts. For example, did you know that the first time a coupon was issued was in 1894, for a free glass of Coca-Cola? In 1965, it was estimated that 50% of American’s used coupons. In 1975, that number had increased to 65%. I wonder what it is today, especially with the way the economy is now.

There are many food establishments in this issue, from Baskin Robbins ice cream, Old West steakhouse, Subway and Caesar’s Pizza Palace to Plaza Tapatia and Bagel Bakery Café, plus many more, including some specialty shops like Pony Tails and Matthew’s Market (Mappsville, VA).

Since tax season is upon us, there are also coupons available for tax prep services from Paula Green & Angela Hayes (H&R Block) located in Princess Anne. Don’t forget that if you are in need of scholarship money, you need to file your FAFSA report by March 31, and will need your taxes in order to do so. Never fear though, the Delmarva Education Foundation (DEF) has a website that can assist students of all ages, located in Wicomico, Somerset & Worcester counties, with their search for money to continue their education. In fact, just recently, DEF co-hosted a scholarship fair that was held at The Centre at Salisbury and had lots of scholarship information available.

With the upcoming wedding season in June, now is the time that many couples get their wedding invitations in the mail. Print & Ship in Princess Anne wants to help you with that task, and offers a 10% off coupon. Eastern Shore Community College (Melfa, VA) is hosting a bridal expo on February 18 so brides-to-be can review the latest styles in hair, dress & make-up, and also sample delicacies from dinner selections to hors d’oeuvres & cocktails. Russell’s Formal & Bridal (Parksley, VA) offers a free bridal veil and shoes OR bridal gown preservation with your purchase of any Maggie Sottero gown. Billie’s Catering in Crisfield can cater your wedding at a 10% discount if you reserve your event date before March 31.

Just in case you have a free weekend and need to fill it in with something to do, there are lots of upcoming events around the shore to help you do just that. Twist & Shout is a Beatles tribute band that will be holding 1 show only at the Chincoteague Center, on February 18 at 7pm, and you can save $10 off your tickets. The Mar-Va Theater in Pocomoke offers movies almost every weekend for only $5! If sports are your thing, check out the UMES basketball games and get a FREE t-shirt with every paid admission. Also, on January 21, you can “Take a Kid to the Game” for FREE with the BOGO admission coupon. The Girdletree Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a fundraiser to include unlimited beer and dancing, raffles, & card games. Cost ranges from $20-$25, with group table reservations available. The Middle Delmarva YMCA is hosting a Masquerade Ball (semi-formal dinner/dance) on February 25 for a cost of $80 per couple or $40 for a single person. Couples can enjoy $10 off their ticket with the coupon found in this publication.

Valentine’s Day for many is yet another holiday to wrack their brain to find the “perfect gift” for their significant other. Edible Arrangements can be your secret weapon. Not only do they deliver, but you can save $4 on your next order. If your sweetie likes to look pretty and often gets her nails done, perhaps a certificate to The Parlor (Court Plaza, Salisbury) is the gift for her. You can include the $5 off shellac services coupon to help her stretch that money a little farther. Need a bottle of wine to woo your lover? Get 15% off any one bottle from the largest selection of wine in Salisbury when you buy from The Wine Rack located in Fruitland (MD) or Onley (VA). If flowers are your way of showing your affection, Country Blossoms (Pocomoke) and Country Creations (Crisfield) are both offering 20% off any one purchase.

Another awesome way to save money is by earning it at the Coastal Kids Consignment sale held in Salisbury. The exact date is still to be determined, but location is usually in the old Rugged Warehouse store located in the shopping center by Target. You can sell, shop & save on high quality, gently used items for infants to teens, and even maternity and home décor, too! I participated in this myself for the first time during their fall event, and have already registered as a seller for this one.

As you can see, the Winter 2012 edition of Frugals magazine holds MANY savings opportunities for just about anyone. Pick yours up today at a local retailer. If your favorite store isn’t a distributor, ask them to contact Lisa Taylor to arrange to become one.
