Year to Date savings

Like last year, I began keeping track of the # of coupons I used in each shopping trip, as well as the total amount spent and total amount saved using coupons. Check out last year's numbers here.


In 2009, I spent a total of $8525.96 and saved $7712.22 using coupons. I purchased 4475 items and redeemed 2573 coupons throughout the year.

In addition to my coupon savings, I also tracked rebates I earned $1809.75, and giftcards I redeemed $956.07.


For 2010, I plan on also tracking the amount saved when using re-useable bags, granted this amount won't be high, but every little bit helps, not to mention it's GREAT for the environment. I am also going to change the way I track my giftcards, because I know for a fact that I've redeemed more than what I posted, just didn't track where (fast food purchases mostly). So, instead of tracking how much I redeem, I will track them as I receive them.

Holiday recycling

Drop off the following items to be recycled:
Used Gift Boxes
Used Wrapping Paper
Broken Christmas Tree and Outdoor Lights
Cardboard Boxes (Any kind)
Packing Materials such as Styrofoam peanuts & Styrofoam blocks

Just leave the packing material in the boxes they came in and we’ll take of the rest!

Also, Christmas tree pickup for the city of Salisbury will be Jan 11-15. Put your used tree by your garbage at the curb. After that week, you can take it to the county landfill on Brick Kiln Rd to have it mulched.

I bought this product a while back, when it was FAR at Rite Aid, and it's just been sitting in my linen closet, waiting to be the "chosen one" and moved to the shower area. Celebrity status

I was in Rite Aid one evening last week, and there was an elderly lady in line in front of me. Well, when I heard her total ($22.xx), I offered her a $5/$20 coupon to use since I had some extra. She was very gracious for it, and thanked me several times. The cashier who was ringing her up, proceeded to tell the woman about how I am known in there for getting a cart full of merchandise for little to no out of pocket expense. Halloween costume ideas?

Halloween is coming up fast...in fact, in just a little more than a month to be exact. It's hard to believe, because so soon after that comes Thanksgiving & Christmas.

What are your kids dressing up as for Halloween? Mine haven't made up their mind yet, but ideas have been tossed around (by my soon to be 4 year old son) of Darth Vader and Tinkerbell (that's what she was last year) for his little sister. He even thought about his daddy & I dressing up too, using a Scooby Doo theme, but Daddy wasn't too keen on that idea. Lucas is pretty set on being Darth Vader, so I'm off to find the best deal on the costume & accessories. Now I just have to figure out what Caroline will be...

FreshDeals--price comparison website

If you do any amount of shopping online, you have got to check out this new website I came across the other day! It's called FreshDeals and allows you to search for anything (from computers to clothing to beauty items) you are shopping online for in order to find the best deal.

For example, if you check out my recent post about the AllerEase allergy pillow case cover I won, you can go to FreshDeals to find the cheapest place to purchase more, which is just what I did after only a few days of using the one I won. There's a place where you can look at questions others have asked about the particular product you're searching for, even adding your own response should you so choose. Not only can you search by product name, but also by price range.

Now that I am aware of this great website, you can bet that I'll be using it whenever I shop online, especially since the Christmas shopping season is coming up so fast! Check it out for yourself, it's bound to save you some money!

Product Review: AllerEase pillow protector

I recently won a $25 gift card & a standard size AllerEase pillow protector from a local radio station. I couldn't wait to get it home to try it out since we all suffer from allergies...I just had to decide who got to try it out. I ultimately decided on my daughter, since she seems to suffer the most from allergies while sleeping.

Breast cancer has touched many of us in one way or another. I know, I know...Breast Cancer Awareness month isn't until October, but I just found this item and think it's an AWESOME fundraising opportunity for just about anyone, and not just during October.

For a start-up cost of a mere $183, you get a bulk case of gumballs, chrome stand and a 60" Pink Ribbon Gumball machine. You can earn it back, plus some with only one emptying of your machine! With only 6 vends a day, your machine will empty twice a year, so higher traffic areas have the potential to earn much more, and with little to no maintenance. Places that cater to women in particular (salons, nail shops, massage parlors, etc) may have a higher success rate since breast cancer is more common in women.

If you're not interested in a gumball machine, or can't afford the start up cost, entertain the idea of selling individually wrapped 4 packs of the Pink Ribbon Gumballs for $1. Many schools sell candy at some point during the year, so this is a great alternative to the same old boring chocolate candy bars.
